Kickwheel Ensemble Theater presents a reading of PASSAGE, our newest collaboratively created theater piece along with 3 short works by Catherine Banks, Elyne Quan and Caridad Svich.
This event is part of Climate Change Theatre Action, a joint initiative between NoPassport, The Arctic Cycle and Theatre Without Borders. This series of worldwide readings and performances is intended to bring awareness to, and foster discussion around, climate change in November and December 2015.
PASSAGE follows two parallel stories through the arctic. The first is of John Franklin’s failed 19th century expedition attempting to cross the fabled Northwest Passage through the frozen Canadian arctic. The second is of a modern couple who embark on a luxury cruise across the same route Franklin attempted, now open to sea travel due to climate change. The comedy and hubris of the modern human takes center stage as Sir John Franklin and his men struggle to survive the brutal arctic winter, while Paige and Todd attempt to save their marriage through adventure travel and self help gurus. Can a talking sea otter and a mysterious explorer marooned in space and time help them?
